Congregational Care Minister

WHERE TO SERVE

Position Type: Part-time (15 hours per week) including 3 Sunday mornings and 2 Wednesday evenings per month and to officiate at some funerals. We are not limiting applicants to only those who are on the roster. We welcome applicants with experience in counseling, therapy, or related fields.

Salary: Starting at $20,000 per year, to be negotiated upon experience.

The Congregational Care Minister will be a cornerstone of our mission, dedicated to nurturing the spiritual and emotional well-being of our congregation. This position requires a compassionate, empathetic individual who can offer support, guidance, and comfort to our members during times of joy, sorrow, and every moment in between. As the Congregational Care Minister, you will be responsible for coordinating and providing pastoral care, overseeing support groups, and visiting those in need, whether they are homebound, hospitalized, or facing significant life challenges. Your role will also include working closely with other church staff to ensure a cohesive approach to caring for our congregation and fostering a supportive, inclusive, and spiritually enriching environment.

Congregational Care Minister Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide pastoral care and counseling to congregation members.
  • Share visits to members in hospitals, nursing homes, and their homes with
  • Pastors.
  • Recruit, train, and support lay people as they offer visits and communion to the
  • community.
  • Share officiating at funerals with Advent Pastors.
  • Have knowledge of community resources and the ability to refer members to
  • appropriate organizations.
  • Handle emergency situations which may occur after normal work hours.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups with members who are experiencing life challenges.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all pastoral interactions.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and contribute to the overall vision and
  • mission of the church.
  • Identify and incorporate Advent members with congregational care gifts, specific
  • expertise or similar challenges.
  • Maintain records of activities.

Congregational Care Minister Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates strong spiritual grounding and understanding of ELCA doctrine
  • and theology.
  • Previous experience in congregational care or counseling.
  • Experience in organizing and leading support groups.
  • Proficiency in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
  • Familiarity with community resources and support services.
  • Preferred Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, MDIV, or a
  • related field.

Congregational Care Minister Skills:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with church staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate care.
  • Basic computer and administrative skills.
  • Excellent listening and counseling skills.
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
