Youth

Who is God creating us to be in the world?

In this stage of faith formation, we focus on students building meaningful relationships with God, peers, adult leaders and members of our communities. We build these relationships through energetic events, small group discussions, service-learning opportunities, and experiential worship.

Senior High Ministry

(9th – 12th grades)

High school is a time of joyful, messy, brave identity formation. Advent high school youth practice personal, interpersonal, and systemic boundary crossing in a safe and supportive community. We explore how to lament, celebrate, dialogue, show up, listen, and build meaningful relationships as spiritual practice. We recognize God in our vulnerable neighbors, in the community garden, in worship, and inside our hearts. We grapple with big questions and unfold into the sacred interaction of God’s story, our story, and the story of our broken and beautiful world.

Advent Lutheran offers a monthly youth group for senior high students. It is a chance to ground oneself in Christ, explore questions about your faith, and just have a good time. Additionally, beginning Summer 2026, we will have an annual youth trip.

Take a peak at our Events page for up-and-coming high school events, and if you have any questions, please reach out to Sophie Geister-Jones, our director of children, youth, and family ministry, at cyf@adventlutheran.com.

Confirmation Ministry

(5th – 8th grades)

Advent’s confirmation program runs fifth grade through eighth grade, usually with a confirmation service happening in May of your child’s eighth grade school year. Classes are split, with fifth and sixth graders in one, and seventh and eighth graders in the other.

The fifth and sixth grade years focus on students becoming more familiar with their bible and navigating it and takes some deep dives into bible stories–one year they focus on the Old Testament, and the next they focus on the New Testament. Seventh and eighth grade are when your student gets to dive into Lutheran theology and history, discuss faith in our world, and explore some different faith leaders and theologians in history.

We meet Wednesdays during the school year from 6:30 to 7:45. This year, our parent and student meeting is on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 following worship, and our confirmation classes run September 17, 2025 to May 6, 2026, from 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm.

Additionally, explore the Events page to see any additional youth events we may be hosting for our confirmation-aged youth! If you have any questions, please reach out to Sophie Geister-Jones, our director of children, youth, and family ministry, at cyf@adventlutheran.com.
