Confirmation
Affirmation of Baptism

The rite of Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation) is an important time in the life of a young person, as they claim for themselves the promises made at their baptisms.

Advent’s confirmation program runs fifth grade through eighth grade, usually with a confirmation service happening in May of your child’s eighth grade school year. Classes are split, with fifth and sixth graders in one, and seventh and eighth graders in the other.

The fifth and sixth grade years focus on students becoming more familiar with their bible and navigating it and takes some deep dives into bible stories–one year they focus on the Old Testament, and the next they focus on the New Testament. Seventh and eighth grade are when your student gets to dive into Lutheran theology and history, discuss faith in our world, and explore some different faith leaders and theologians in history.

Additionally, our program requests that your child experience different ways to be involved in church–we have students read scripture, serve communion, volunteer with altar guild, and greet, to name a few opportunities. We also strive to connect our confirmation kids with the larger community, and have community volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

We meet Wednesdays during the school year from 6:30 to 7:45. This year, our parent and student meeting is on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 following worship, and our confirmation classes run September 17, 2025 to May 6, 2026, from 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm.If you have any questions, please reach out to Sophie Geister-Jones, our director of children, youth, and family ministry, at cyf@adventlutheran.com.
